Wayne Pumps - Interesting Facts
- In 1892 the first Wayne Pump was a dispenser for kerosene, which, together with coal oil, became the common sources of fuel for lighting, heating and cooking.
- As the automobile developed, Wayne developed gasoline pumps.
- The first Wayne Pump for gasoline was a hand pump delivering one gallon per stroke.
- The one gallon Wayne Pump became a five gallon pump.
- In 1918 Wayne put a ten gallon cylindrical glass bowl on top of the pump, graduated in gallons. This was the first "visible" Wayne Pump.
- In 1928 the Wayne Company became the Wayne Pump Company, an identity it carried until 1968.
Wayne firsts
- First to develop a meter in Wayne pumps prior to 1933.
- Wayne invented the mechanical computing pump.
The mechanical computer was patented by Wayne (and manufactured under
license by Veeder Root Inc.). Wayne later licensed two of its biggest competitors
to use this innovation in their pumps.
- 1949 saw the first Wayne Pump to incorporate proportional price blending of fuel.
Dresser Wayne technology today, continues to lead.
